WASHINGTON, April 18 (TNSFR) -- The U.S. Air Force has announced its intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed Homeland Defense Over-the-Horizon Radar (HLD-OTHR) project across the northwest United States.
The proposed radar system is intended to provide persistent, long-range early detection of airborne threats approaching the North American continent--capabilities that would extend beyond the line-of-sight limitations of traditional radar.
