SACRAMENTO, California, Oct. 1 -- Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-California, issued the following news release on Sept. 30, 2024:

Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that he has signed AB 1780 by Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) to prohibit legacy and donor preferences in the admissions process for private, nonprofit institutions.
