191 FCPS Students Named 2025 National Merit Semifinalists
FALLS CHURCH, Virginia, Sept. 13 -- Fairfax County Public Schools issued the following news:
One hundred ninety-one students from 19 Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) are among the semifinalists named by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for 2025. Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST), which also serves as the Governor's Regional School for Northern Virginia, has 81 semifinalists.
All semifinalists are eligible to compete for 6,870 National Merit Scholars

Geoscientists detect rapid uplift at unique volcano in Tanzania

When a volcano is about to erupt, the surrounding land puffs up like a squeezed ballon.
The technical term is "transient deformation," and Virginia Tech researchers have detected and tracked this short-lived movement for the first time using satellite observations of Ol Doinyo Lengai, an active Tanzanian volcano.
